About Me
Hello, my name is Jasper Vermorgen. I was born on 22 May 1987 in Dendermonde, Belgium.
How it started
I started listening to music at a very young age. At first only to classical music, simply because that was all I knew. Soon after, I got my own music player and discovered other genres. Until the age of 12, I mostly listened to the charts and to Belgian hit radio stations.
Then I grew tired of commercial hit music and switched to C-Dance, a Belgian dance radio station that mixed commercial dance tunes with less commercial ones. I really enjoyed those times, especially the trance radio shows. When C-Dance stopped broadcasting in 2004 because of financial and economic problems, I moved on to internet radio stations such as etn.fm and afterhours.fm.
Alongside all this listening, I went to music school from the age of 7 until 17. There I learned to read notes and followed lessons in music theory, music history, ensemble and piano, starting with classical music and later moving on to pop and jazz.
Making music
In September 2005, I bought my first computer in a second-hand shop, because I needed one for my photography studies. With a computer of my own, I thought it was time to start making my own music. My first tracks were made with free tools: the audio tracker Tuareg by Bram Bos and the audio editor Audacity. With SynthEdit, I also built my own free VST synthesizer, DigiReactor.
Nowadays, I use:
- FL Studio, by the Belgian company Image-Line
- Audacity, still, as it is an excellent audio editor
- a Korg iS50B synthesizer, mostly as a MIDI controller
Studies and work
Photography did not turn out to be what I wanted to do in the future, so after one year I switched to studying IT: programming, web design and coding, UML and more. I passed my first year in June 2007, and in October 2008 I started my third and final year, with Multimedia as my main subject. After an internship that started in April 2009, I graduated in June 2009.
Following my internship, I worked from August 2009 until August 2012 at Otoconsult, an audiological company in Antwerp, where I created medical and audiological software.
Since January 2013, I have been working as a full-stack developer at Axxes, a Belgian IT consultancy firm, also based in Antwerp.
